Imaginary Awards

The Imaginary Awards

Since 2017, we have given yearly awards to our favorite sff. We’re particularly biased towards queer representation and queer creators, so you can expect a lot of both in our lists. Prior to 2020, we chose one or two favorites from each category (bolded in the lists below). After 2020, we’ve presented the awards as lists of our favorites for a given year, with no single favorite. Each category begins with a gallery of our favorites for the year, followed by lists of that year’s and previous years’ favorites.
Starting in 2020, we considered the year to run November through October (to give us time to catch up with new releases at the end of the year). Therefore, for 2020 and subsequent years, we consider any works that released primarily (for TV shows) or entirely (for books, movies, etc.) in November or December for the next year.

Below, you’ll find our current awards:
Best Novels (2017 - present)
Best Novellas (2017 - present)
Best YA (2018 - present)
Best Science Nonfiction Book (2018 - present)
Best Book Series (2017 - present)
Best Debut Novels or Novellas (2017 - present)
Best Book Cover Art (2017 - present)
Best Comics (2020 - present)
Best Live-Action TV Shows (2017 - present)
Best Animated TV Shows (2019 - present)
Best Movies (2017 - present)
Best Queer Representation (2018 - present)

You can also take a look at the awards (and their awardees) we’ve since retired:
Best Story Collections (2018 & 2019)

Best Single or Standalone Comics (2017 - 2019)
Best TV Show Episodes or Arcs (2017 - 2019)
